WWE Updates Rules For Its Talent With Regard To YouTube & Twitch Accounts

It's reported that the WWE has updated its policy, with regard to its talent using 3rd party sites such as YouTube and Twitch. The updated policy states that WWE Talent can continue to use YouTube and Twitch, but they have to do so using their real names, as opposed to their trademarked names. The talent must notify the company if they choose to continue using YouTube and Twitch, using their real names. Last week, the WWE notified its talent that they would not be able to use 3rd party websites at all, so it would appear that the company has relaxed its stance a bit.

WWE issued a statement on the updated policy on Saturday.

"Much like Disney and Warner Bros., WWE creates, promotes and invests in its intellectual property, i.e. the stage names of performers like The Fiend Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Big E and Braun Strowman. It is the control and exploitation of these characters that allows WWE to drive revenue, which in turn enables the company to compensate performers at the highest levels in the sports entertainment industry. Notwithstanding the contractual language, it is imperative for the success of our company to protect our greatest assets and establish partnerships with third parties on a companywide basis, rather than at the individual level, which as a result will provide more value for all involved.”
