It's reported that Canadian Pro Wrestling Legend and WWE Hall of Fame Alum Pat Patterson has passed away earlier today at the age of 79, as he was recently diagnosed with Cancer. Patterson, born Pierre Clermont had a long career that spanned decades, starting in the 1950s and he's wrestled in Verne Gagne's AWA and the NWA, before settling in with the then WWF in 1979. He became the very first WWE Intercontinental Champion, wining a tournament in Rio de Janero that same year.
After his retirement in 1984, Patterson had various roles in the WWF, from programming to backstage writing and he used that writing talent to create the WWE's marquee pay-per-view match concept; The Royal Rumble. During the WWE's 'Attitude Era' in the mid to late 1990s, Patterson was an on screen character alongside Gerald Briscoe, and they were aptly named "The Stooges" as they were often seen in the company of WWE CEO and on screen character Vince McMahon (Mr. McMahon).
Patterson's last appearance on WWE TV was an episode of RAW in July, 2019, became the WWE 24/7 Champion. We here at Pro Wrestling Slam! pass our deepest condolences to the family of Pierre Clermont at this very sad time.
