Purchase Of The NWA By Billy Corgan In Jeopardy?

Updated: Aug 15, 2020

The eventual sale of the National Wrestling Alliance to Smashing Pumpkins Front-man Billy Corgan may be in jeopardy, according to reports. Corgan commented that said sale was 97% completed, in a recent interview with PWInsider.com, but apparently there are underlying issues regarding the transfer of existing copyrights and trademarks of the NWA.

The copyrights and trademarks under NWA President Bruce Tharpe's brand 'International Wrestling Corporation LLC' lapsed last year, but a new application was submitted on March 30th, 2017, so legally the trademark cannot be transferred to Billy Corgan due to the copyrights and trademarks not being officially assigned.

Wrestling fans will have to see what happens with the NWA short term, if this deal does not go through right away.
