In addition to the $115 million dollars that was awarded to Hulk Hogan in the final verdict of the Hogan vs. Gawker Civil Suit, an additional $25 million dollars was tacked on to Hogan's final settlement figure. The additional monies were awarded as punitive damages for Hogan and juror Salina Stevens commented on Gawker and why she thinks they were at fault for violating Hogan's right to privacy. “I understand that we have a First Amendment and I stand behind the First Amendment, but I don’t want that to be used improperly, and I think that it is used improperly way too often,“You know, we also have privacy laws and I hope that those will be taken into more consideration when stories are being ran.” While Stevens realizes that awarding $140 million was a large number, but she commented that it was more of sending a message about how important privacy laws are. “I hope wherever it goes that they can kind of continue on the path that we set because I really hope that we have laid some groundwork for those things,”
