Desperate Measures

On Monday Night Raw, Shane McMahon made his return to WWE. Wrestling fans all over rejoiced because it had been so long since they had seen him. He's probably the most likable of the McMahon family, so that helps too. While everyone else was excited for this, I pretty much said “meh”. Then it was announced that he wanted control of Raw, and his father said he could have control if he can beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania in a Hell in a Cell match. Um, what? Look, I get that there are injuries plaguing the roster during the most important time of the year but this just comes off as a bit of a desperation move. I understand they needed an opponent for The Undertaker for Wrestlemania with the show being in home state, but I am not sure if a wrestler taking on a non-wrestling high spot freak for control of a TV show is the way to go. We have The Undertaker being used as fodder in an already played out Authority storyline that has been going on since 1998. Of course, WWE continues to do it for two reasons. One, because it's easy (lazy) booking and two, because it allows Steph and Hunter to drone on for 20 minutes to open Raw every week and be the stars of the show. Next week, The Undertaker will be on Raw to explain himself and hopefully we will find out from a storyline standpoint why the hell he is in cahoots with Vince. Are they reforming The Corporate Ministry? We reaching back to 1999? Having to bring Shane McMahon back also shows that WWE will continue to regurgitate when it has the opportunity to innovate. It also shows the overall lack of star power on the WWE roster. I'll be honest, I'll take Shane McMahon over Braun Strowman! Of course, The Undertaker is going to do the match because I am sure he's getting paid very well for this, but I just wonder if they could've gone a different route. Ever since The Undertaker’s legendary streak ended, my interest in him even competing at Mania has waned as that was what made him a WrestleMania attraction to begin with. The moment he lost to Brock Lesnar, I knew that any match afterwards at WrestleMania would be just another match on the card. This one is different because there's actually something on the line. I just can't see The Undertaker losing to Shane McMahon in Texas. He has defeated the likes of Shawn Michaels, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and Triple H, losing to Shane McMahon seems silly. As I look at the card for WrestleMania, it isn't exactly WrestleMania 3! Will there be anything else added to make this a card that people want to care about? They will have 4 hours, and I hope they can come up with ways to fill it in a way that we won't feel like we lost 4 hours of our lives. They a few weeks before the event to build all this up, and I wish them nothing but the best. I hope they make me eat my words when I say that WrestleMania 32 isn't going to be spectacular. Will they fill up that stadium in Dallas? Probably. It won't be because of the card itself, it will be because WrestleMania is a brand name that people will travel from all parts of the globe to be a part of. Another thing, why does Shane McMahon just want control of Raw and not Smackdown? Why wouldn't he want control of the whole company? You also have to think that when he capped on Stephanie about the stock and the ratings that some of that was a shoot. And Vince, *Captain America voice* LANGUAGE! What do you think? Does this match interest you? Does WrestleMania interest you? Who will get bumped to the Pre-show or possibly off the card itself so that Flo Rida can perform?
