If you haven’t heard, Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling will be making its debut on January 4, 2015. While there is no roster or anyone officially signed to the company, they will be using their working agreement with New Japan Pro Wrestling to have New Japan’s yearly dome show in Tokyo happen under the Global Force Wrestling banner. Well played, Double J, well played! His first show is going to be something where New Japan Pro Wrestling, which has been an established wrestling company for over 42 years, will be providing most of the talent and paying most of the freight. As the son of a wrestling promoter, Jarrett knows how to run a company while doing everything in his power to keep costs down. When this show airs on PPV from the Tokyo Dome, fans are going to see a few things right off the bat. They are going to see that the event looks major league, they are going to see some great wrestling from the New Japan roster, and they are also going to see some names they recognize such as AJ Styles, Doc Gallows, and Shelton Benjamin. Personally, I am looking forward to the show. I feel that the professional wrestling business is continuing to shrink. It’s no surprise because I am sure that after a while, people get tired of seeing the same matches involving the same people with the same results. Professional wrestling is in need of something different, and there is no better time than the present to make that happen. There need to be some faces that fans in mainstream wrestling aren’t tired of seeing and some matches that fans aren’t tired of seeing. Jarrett needs to strike while the iron is hot on this one. I have a feeling that this may be the plan for Global Force Wrestling until they can stand on their own two feet. Run shows hosted by other companies while using the Global Force Wrestling banner. Remember that Jarrett also has a working agreement with AAA in Mexico. What this mean is that maybe a GFW show down the road will give Jarrett access to using Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) and Myzteziz (Mistico/Sin Cara). Right now with a blank canvas, the possibilities are endless in regards to presentation and wrestlers at the events. Working agreements with other companies and possibly building your roster by paying wrestling “per appearance” will be the way to go. The biggest rumor out there is that Jim Ross has been interested in doing commentary for the Tokyo Dome show in Japan. This would be the perfect time for Jeff Jarrett to make a pitch to Jim Ross to do commentary for the event. We already know that the wrestling itself will be good, but having Jim Ross on commentary can give the promotion and the show itself some instant credibility. You will have some excellent wrestling in a historical big league venue being called by one of the greatest commentators of all time. The extra treat is that we can get a wrestling show where the commentary isn’t full of unfunny jokes, constant product placement, or reminding you to how you can spend your 9.99. I hope that this event will be the first of many for Global Force Wrestling. I want it to succeed. The more jobs out that are available in mainstream professional wrestling, the better. This will also give people the chance to see that there is more than one way to present professional wrestling. Hopefully the show itself will be presented in a way will the pro wrestling will outweigh the “sports entertainment”. I’m hopeful, how about you?
