On Sunday night at WrestleMania XXX over 75,000 people let out a collective groan followed by stunning silence as The Undertaker was defeated by Brock Lesnar. This put an end to 21 straight wins for The Undertaker at the WrestleMania. I was very shocked as I sat there Sunday Night and heard Brock Lesnar’s music playing and he was announced the winner. My phone was lit up with text messages, tweets, and Facebook notifications. The last thing in wrestling that a lot of us adult fans thought was real is now gone forever. The images of the graphic reading 21-1 will forever be etched into my mind when I think about WrestleMania XXX. The streak ending is something that fans and WWE are going to talk about for years to come. Plenty of fans were angry about the streak ending. I have mixed emotions on it. I felt that The Undertaker should have retired undefeated at WrestleMania, but at the same time I felt that if he was going to lose, then it should have been to someone fresh that they were trying to push. Someone like a Roman Reigns or an Antonio Cesaro would have definitely gotten more benefit from getting a win against Undertaker at a WrestleMania. Brock Lesnar definitely didn’t need this win at all. But if this is what Undertaker wanted then I feel that we as fans can’t go against the grain on it because that would have meant that Lesnar was the one he chose to get the win on him. There are also others out there who seemed to be very happy that the Undertaker was defeated including a friend of mine who posted plenty of pics throughout the week showing himself to be a Brock Lesnar guy (Yeah AK, I’m talking about you). I can see their side of this too! I mean if ANYONE is going to take down the Undertaker and his streak, how can it not be a legit bad ass like Brock Lesnar? Remember Undertaker can do MMA moves, but Brock Lesnar has won the World Title in the same sport. I am wondering if this will be the last time The Undertaker competes at WrestleMania. After all, if there is no longer a streak for him to defend then what’s the point of him showing up to wrestle? Even if he does show up to a few more WrestleMania’s, it just won’t be the same as it once was when he was defending his winning streak. If there is still a chance for him to have a final match with Sting at WrestleMania XXXI, I can guarantee that while the streak would no longer be on the line that it would still be a hot ticket for nostalgia purposes as long as it is booked correctly. For me, it would just be two legends finally going at it in the ring on the grandest stage The person who may have been damaged the most from all of this isn’t going to be The Undertaker or Brock Lesnar. The person who is being damaged most here is Daniel Bryan because instead of the talk being about how Bryan overcame all of the odds and becoming the champion of the World in a storyline that has been going since last summer, his WrestleMania moment was overshadowed by the fact that the Undertaker lost to Brock Lesnar. The fans went home happy (for the most part), but the fans also went home astonished by the fact that the streak couldn’t withstand the beast! When people talk about this WrestleMania as they are building up for WrestleMania events in the future, I think we will all remember it more for the day that someone who always seemed indestructible was shown to be nothing more than mortal...like the rest of us.
