I would like to take this time to give WWE credit where credit is due. They masterfully shut down Chicago’s attempt to hijack Raw on Monday. The whole thing was actually pretty laughable on top of being an awesome show. Once "Cult of Personality" began playing, the marks in that Chicago crowd became unglued falling for it hook, line, and sinker. Then out came Paul Heyman who cut an awesome promo about CM Punk that led into another promo about Brock Lesnar’s match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX. What WWE did here was mention Punk’s name instead of acting like he doesn’t exist. At that moment, CM Punk was no longer the pink elephant in the room. That was great work by the WWE brass. WWE knew just what do to stop this supposed hijacking. They gave the fans a whole night full of great matches and great promos. The Usos won the tag team titles, YOU CHEERED! You saw Cesaro wrestle, YOU CHEERED! While the crowd yelled for Punk during the show, the crowd made noise whenever they were distracted by anything else on the show that satisfied them. An example would be Daniel Bryan who made it very clear that a person can’t scream "CM PUNK" and "YES!" at the same time. Had this been a true hijacking then CM Punk’s name would have been screamed throughout the whole show no matter what was going on. It wouldn’t have mattered if there was a promo going on, a title match, a dance off, etc. etc. What you all have to understand is that WWE won this battle the moment that you bought your ticket and walked into the Allstate Arena or when you sat down in front of the television to watch the show. Vince McMahon basically grabbed you by the ankles, turned you upside down, and shook you until all the change fell out. He knows that regardless of what happens that everyone will keep coming back to watch each and every week or they will be plunking down money for WWE Network if they aren’t already. Another person who was a pawn in WWE’s game of chess was Dirtsheet Kingpin Dave Meltzer. For over 30 years the guy has been giving out insider information that ends up being shared on multiple websites. Last weekend, he was told by a "reliable source" that CM Punk was going to be at Raw on Monday. When CM Punk didn’t show up, he said the source was lied to. I am starting to think that it was someone in WWE themselves who was advised to lie to Meltzer about the situation just to get the folks in the internet wrestling community all riled up. There was a lot of egg on his face Tuesday morning for sure! We need to understand that this is the road to WrestleMania, and that for now WWE has much bigger fish to fry than a disgruntled employee or his disgruntled fans. I know that you all want CM Punk to return, so do I! But at the same time, you are forced to wait it out just like everyone else. And that is if he ever does come back. And if he doesn’t come back, he does not owe any of us a damn thing. In the future, if you are going to hijack a show you should be sure to have the proper ammunition than simply chanting on guy’s name. Stay classy, Chicago!
