Booking 101: The Payoff

Chances are that you have seen or at least read about the events that transpired this past Sunday at SummerSlam. Daniel Bryan reached the top of the mountain and won the WWE Title from John Cena. Not only did Bryan win, but he beat Cena clean in the middle of the ring. Moments after Bryan won the title, he was pedigreed by guest referee and WWE COO Triple H allowing Randy Orton to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and win the WWE Title just moments after Bryan had won it. Within seconds I witnessed as folks on the internet once again started mark-raging. One goof said “I’m not watching Raw tomorrow, let me know what happens!” Really dude, if you stop watching Raw just because the results of a fake fight didn’t go you way then you are a silly, dumb mark. If you want to know what happens there are thousands of website out there that will tell you! The swerve of Triple H attacking Bryan was something that I was able to see from about 837 miles away! After Bryan won, Triple H was in the ring for a bit too long while Bryan was supposed to be having his moment. Plus we all know that when you have a special guest referee who is wearing his wrestling boots that shit is going to go down. Were you REALLY expecting anything else? The next night on Raw, we saw that Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Brad Maddox, and the new WWE Champion were all in on the diabolical plan with The Shield also serving as some sort of corporate security. Want to know what this did? Now Daniel Bryan is more over than ever as he begins his chase after the WWE title against the machine that runs WWE. For Randy Orton, it gives his career a shot in the arm that was much needed. We are witnessing a career revival for someone whose career had appeared to have plateaued a few months ago while he was spinning his wheels as a face. If you missed the show on Monday while taking your mark tantrum, then you missed out on the beginning of what could be a huge storyline going into the fall which is a very important time for viewership in WWE with the NFL getting ready to bite a huge chunk out of their viewership. As fans, don’t be so quick to judge things before you see how the angle plays out. The main goal in wrestling isn’t to cater to the whim of the Internet Wrestling Community or even the WWE Universe. The goal for WWE is to DRAW MONEY! And there will be plenty of people who will be ordering the Night of Champions PPV in September in hopes that Daniel Bryan will defeat Randy Orton to regain the WWE Championship. And if it doesn’t happen at that particular PPV, then it will happen at an event down the road that people will paying money to see. And I can bet you that when Bryan does win the title back, it will be a huge moment for both Bryan and the fans who witnessed it happen. If WWE stays the course with this, then we will have ourselves the payoff that fans have wanted the whole time. I know that you were all anxious to see Daniel Bryan win the WWE Title, so was I! But you have to understand why WWE did what they did. Bryan’s chase for the WWE Title will be nothing short of exciting as long as Bryan is put into that position to overcome those odds that have been put there before him. Bryan has come a long way from being considered too small to be in WWE, and spending all of that time wrestling on the independent scene at school gyms and VFWs all across America. Now he is the most over superstar in the top professional wrestling organization in the World! Believe me when I say that when all is said and done, the ends will definitely justify the means. Just sit down next week, and watch WWE programming before you miss something because you were too busy mark-raging! Boycotting the show isn’t going to change their course of action, so just roll with it and enjoy it. You will thank me later.
